What is a last?

A last is a solid piece of composite or wood, that defines the shape of the boot. How boots fit depend on how similar your foot is to the last.

How do lasts differ?

Lasts can vary dramatically from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some lasts will have more to the length, some will have a bit more bulk, and some will have more of an arch.

What lasts does Truman use?

Truman uses three lasts:

  • Our Casual Last (previously known as our 79 last)
  • Our Formal Last (previously known as our 56 last)
  • Our Work Last (inspired by our 20 last)

Our Casual Last is a very accomodating last suited for rugged, casual boots, favoring plain toe makeups for daily wearability.

The Formal Last is a more refined last that features a cap toe, a long vamp and usually paired with our Eugene outsole.

The Work Last was designed and built for comfort, providing a generous amount of room for everyone, without looking bulky.

How do Truman lasts compare?

The Casual Last is available in Standard width (D) and Wide (EE). The standard D width is very accommodating for most feet.

Likewise, our Formal Last is available in Standard width (D) and Wide (EE), and features a refined, pointier toe.

Our Work Last is also available in Standard width (D) and Wide (EE), features a more snug heel and a slightly turned up toe.

For both our Casual Last and Formal Last, we recommend sizing down a half size from your standard US size. For our Work Last, size down a full size.

Last Sizing

Both our Casual and Formal Lasts run big by a half size, so the general recommendation is to size down a half size from your dress or sneaker sizing. Go down a full size for our Work Last.
